Very first setup I played a party with, probably 1984?, was a cheap very light plastic belt drive turntable (I think it was a Sony), a cheap-ass Radio Shack mixer, and a Pioneer. Pioneer cassette deck, that is! Don't remember what headphones other than I had some, and I didn't know shit about matching beats, I just alternated songs on tape and vinyl throughout the party. Good times!!

1995: Soundlab DLP3's and a soundlab mixer - the one with the big channel cut buttons either side of the crossfader.

Then 1210s in 1996. Sold then in 2008 to a mate. They are still going strong and I've since bought a pair of much newer 1200 mk5s.

2 x Stanton T.52's & Stanton M.202. The cheapest Direct drive combo I could afford. Really made me appreciate good gear, though I still appreciate that setup for helping me grasp the fundamentals.

Mixtrack Pro and a Akai LPD8. I used a shoebox for a laptop stand. Had no idea what I was doing. Had so much fun anyway!

Traktor kontrol x1 and audio 2 dj
had no idea what i was doing, i fell right into the trap of NI advertisments, checking tutorial vids about the x1 on their website and thinking "yeah i wanna do that"
"mixed" my first 6 months without any kind of mixer, no eqing, just the crossfader using my macbooks trackpad.
i had no idea really, but it was fun and since then i've stepped up my game quite a bit, and the x1 (now 2 of them) are still my all time favorite midi controllers (tested out quite a few)
