That is exactly why I'm looking at SD's in the first place (I've upgraded to a new laptop with an SSD drive).

I respect your opinion, mostapha, so, do you think an SD is a viable (read only) storage medium for a library/collection made up of 320kbps .mp3's?

    I honestly don't know. I haven't tried.

They take a while to pull raw photos into Aperture, but it's also doing more than just streaming data.

I've never used anything but internal drives.

My priorities are different than some...I have more money than some, less than others. If I owned a modern rMBP or MBA and intended to use it for DJing....I'd just buy a big internal SSD from OWC and be done with it. But, it's gotten to the point that I just add a few hundred dollars to the price of a laptop when I'm shopping. I know that I'm going to replace the drive before I turn it on for the first time as well as the RAM if possible. And, forutnately, I haven't "upgraded" to an Apple that can't do that simply.

It's really reassuring just having the drive in the laptop.

Anybody got an SD card that they can do a little test with?

Anybody with a DVS system that can stick a couple of tracks onto an SD card and try playing 4 tracks at the same time in Traktor?

You aren't going to have a problem. The SD read capability is way higher than the songs. Just don't cheap out on the card.

I just read about "fake memory".

Frightened the life out of me! No way I would put my collection onto something that is potentially that volatile.

I think I'm gonna look into putting a 2nd SSD into my HP laptop. Now - to find out if there is space for it!

It will be fine. Traktor reads the files once, stores them to RAM, and then plays them from RAM. You might...might...notice a slight hitch when first loading a track to a deck, but that's it.

Wow, I am really interested in this ... I have a late 2013 MBP w/ retina with SSD ... I would put all my tracks on an external thunderbolt drive, but I would rather just keep that for time machine. Please, if someone can update us with the results.
