This. I've always thought it'd be interesting to try and gather a whole bunch of people in a club and try and get them to pick out if a track is being played on vinyl, cd or mp3. Setup all the gear behind a wall and ask them to pick and see if anyone could really notice.
I understand the audionerds though.. especially a guy who designs sound systems.
I think a lot of people could tell the difference, particularly between a WAV and a 128 mp3 for example, but the question is whether or not they'd actually pick up on it in a club situation.
I mean, if you ask someone to tell you which sounds better then they'll be thinking about it when usually they aren't. That also goes for beatmatching, how many times have you heard that horrible du-dum du-dum mismatch sound in a club but no one else seems to notice? They're just not listening out for it so don't give two shits.

Depends on how late into a night it is.. if the opening dj before midnight fucks up a lot of people notice. After midnight though it's a whole different game when the alcohol and whatever else has kicked in. lol
Probably safe to say though that if you're playing music where the quality is shit than you're not going to make it very far. I guess I was referring to more of the quality mp3 vs quality wav vs vinyl debate that's raged on for years.
I'm playing on a Funktion 1 system 1st April.
Go me.
