If you wanna be an artist, you have to struggle, and sometimes do it for free. A lot of "artist" DJ's will never play a wedding, or get paid. They'll be the ones locking themselves in a room for 4 hrs at a time, spending MONTHS on a mix.

An never ending battle in my case my friend. Its like with girls. The nice guys finish last.

I don't get why a DJ would play a style of music they do not like.

I mean surely the crowd will see the fake smile...or boredom in his eyes?

I would say, when they are paying my salary I will play anything they want. Even if I am bored out of my mind. I have done many kids parties and I am so f-ing bored and tired of talking to 5 and 9 year olds. BUT, I always remember one thing. "I am providing a service, and if I want to get paid then I better put the biggest smile on my face that I can, in order to get my money".
