absolutely... i don't get out to parties all that often but when i do i choose the shows i go to wisely - so what i've witnessed is that there are still passionate promoters and djs who bring in passionate audiences.

i tend to support the genres that have smaller loyal audiences that have to work to keep the shit alive in the city, so i imagine that helps.

perhaps the vibe is dead when it comes to benny bennasi shows or whatever, but chances are the kids who dig that kind of bullshit music couldn't care less about a vibe in the first place.

as I said, it's not that. It the fact that the percentage of pure garbage DJ's has shot through the roof due to the accessibility of it.

PS - I think Karlos put it best... it's old and tired. The part that I see is that newer guys refuse to see a valid point that the genuine older guys bring. Then there is just jaded older guys who refuse to adapt and water down the valid points that are being made by some of their peers.
I'm going back to tape splicing.

Boy, when I was a kid, DJs had to carve the grooves in wooden records with a dull pocket knife, and then our fingers would get numb carrying them through miles of snow to gigs in unheated rooms full of drunken Shriners. These kids today just flip a switch and don't appreciate the sacrifices we made for them.

The technical term for this is "geezing."

I bet I could restore a backup from a message board I used to run about 10 years ago and find the same discussion but about vinyl vs cd's.
