this is not the correct thing to do. it is only correct to use an effect when it will ADD something to the mix or emotion or flow that you are going for. just because you have time, doesn't mean you have to just mash away on an effect, personally i think it looks amateurish.

if an effect will add something, then mash away. however, if you have time, you can either: a) select the next few tracks that will fit with the flow you're going for, or, b) mix out of the song more quickly. a lot of people tend to let their songs play out right to the end and this is why they're standing around looking for something to do.
