Freedom from interference from others and the state is worth just as much as freedom to do what you want which is the kind of naive freedom people (especially the young cry out for).

ok, somehow i missed this...for all the disagreement I wonder how much differently we are thinking about this....cause i agree completely about this, in fact i think freedom from others/the state is the more valuable of the two; if you have that then really you have the first one too....

I will just add that i believe freedom is at least partially a delusion of the mind, but that's what makes it hard to take away....

It's land of the free and home of the brave. Freedom is a state of mind but the original lyrics of our national anthem were written in the context of the Revolutionary War--not modern surveillance systems, echelon, marketing focus groups and web browser cookies. Interesting that the third stanza references slaves and hirelings.

I tell you one thing i would not have seen if it wasnt for TV. New Orleans winning the Super Bowl ..! Surely thats a good thing in America after how that place has suffered..!
