I can't see NI devoting a lot of R&D into making Traktor a robust VJ solution...
NI seems to be firmly planted and committed to the DJ (as opposed to VJ/DJ). Serato is probably your best bet as it appears the rivalry with NI seems to be dwindling as each company changes their strategic direction.
I like the direction Traktor is going... DVS technology seems to have peaked (where else could it have gone really?) vinyl semi-purists need not partake in the new features... DVS was solid to begin with.
As far as I'm concerned, Traktor has evolved into a polished product that has pretty much secured its place as the digital DJ software standard. I know "dems is fightin' words 'round deez parts" but it's gonna be pretty hard to convince anyone that "Traktor isn't stable" or "real DJs don't use a SYNCH BUTTON!!"
The fact of the matter is that you call a $90 dollar upgrade expensive, yet are willing to sell your audio 8 and control vinyl in favour of spending $1100 to switch to serato? plus calling us people that are very loyal to the company that we are talking about unprofessional is asking for a very passionate response.
This is very correct. The big fact is that Native Instruments is looking at the musician, not the visual artist. Technology may have enabled people to play videos like a vinyl record, but that doesn't mean they are the same thing.
Someone also said something about how people are more inclined to enjoy the passivity of music while going out to a club rather than sitting down and watching something. If they wanted to do that they may as well stay at home.
and for the record
Literally speaking the troll is the one that speaks to illicit the huge reaction. Saying something like "oh paying 90 bucks for an upgrade that doesn't include video isn't worth it IMO" while in a thread that is devoted to the excitement and anticipation of said product, is therefore trolling.

If anyone is considering selling their audio 8 I may be interested. I'm in the UK.
Ta
tl;dr. Yes, it's worth what they're asking.

I think $80 is a fair price for the upgrade. I'm sure I'll use the new effects, the loop decks, and the colored waveforms. I also like that the beat grids can be adjusted (strong, light, etc.) I really believe that anytime the user is given more choices/options within software it is a win. I also really like how the decks, platters, and scope can be resized as I am learning to scratch. I think overall the gui is looking much cleaner.
Things I was looking for that don't seem to be included in the update include the option to have side by side waveforms either aligned vertically or horizontally (vertical a la serato please!). Personally, I think this would be a huge help for me as I learn to scratch. I also wish NI would include a better (read: easier) midi mapping system. I'm very computer savy (Mac and PC), but something about the traktor midi mapping just doesn't click with me. I do lust after serato's one click midi mapping system.
I will not be buying either of the new audio interfaces as their feature upgrades are not necessary for my setup. I appreciate that NI has made TP2 backwards compatible with the old sound cards. While the idea of lower latency is appealing, I can't say that I have ever really had a problem with Traktor latency. My crab scatch right hand is what needs lower latency at this point.
Cheers

If you guys would actually read the posts you would see who maintained a professional attitude and who did not. I never even talked about the 90 dollar upgrade. I was talking about the upgrade from Audio 8 to Audio 10.
"The upgrade price for the current Traktor Scratch Pro owner is crazy"
$80 Dollars is not crazy. By any means.
Actually its 400 US. So, if we do some math thats 400-80=320.
320 Dollars for a brand new highest level NI sound card. How much is the SL4? $900
And we are the crazy ones...
We are obviously not getting ANYTHING you are interested in. The list is long and wide, but aparently you dont enjoy a superior level of control in you DJ set.
You just said that the DVS system THIS THREAD IS BASED ON is not a "major" DVS. And is somekind of sidelineing underdog.
And WHAT stops me from bringing a DVD of visuals I made to plug into their DVD player and display? Hmmmmmm?
They do.
And we use them.
Would you like some cheese with that whine?
You obviously would like more cheese...
I mean I'll give you more but youve had a lot of cheese, and that whine has got you pretty drunk, we can all see it.
Umm no. I am not giving you any more man, I have to be the responsoble one, and tell you that you have had enough.
You have said many things.
To all traktor owners.
And have proven that you have no "taste".
You are kindly welcome.
If that control vinyl is flat I will personally pay you a grand for it.
Do you have some problem with masochism?
Well now we all have the benefit of your posts being neatly collected in one place, for all to view.
It is plain too see your approach has been extremely profession, based on well though out, consice opinions. Based in fact and technical information that pertains to the DJ.
You sir are a Lier.
You talked about the crazy price that owners of Traktor Scratch Pro would have to pay for an upgrade.
That price is *cough* 80 dollars.
Nuff. Said.
