I'm definitely in agreement with the above statement. It's all about the tunes.
IMO, the only thing that separates a good DJ from a bad one, is the selection of music for their recorded mixes or live DJ sets.


In my city we have DJs who use a variety of mediums - controller only, CDs, vinyl and time-code. What separates the good from the bad, are the songs they choose. The worst offenders for poor quality song selection are the CDJ DJs, the pure controller DJs have graduated from vinyl/cdj, and generally have pretty good song selection. The vinyl/time-code clan are somewhere in-between.
