@lord- Why not join some irc channels and ask? I'm sure mixxx/alsa/JACK etc people will have some good ideas.

Personally I use an Audio4 and it works out of the box with ALSA, but I guess those are now discontinued? There are lists of compatible soundcards with various Linux sound servers. I would first determine what programs you want to use in Linux.

It's GNOME(2.30.2), just booted it up and checked. The theme is certainly a custom US theme though. I like it as well.

you can easily crawl mixxx.org/forums/ the question has been treated several times... There's even a way to modify a cheap berhinger UFO202 to transform it ina correct and cheap DJ soundcard...

I am scared to upgrade to the new Ubuntu OS, has any other Linux user on this forum had a good go with the Ocelot?

    From now on, no problem...
It seems we don't have a rt kernel-again- but the unity stuff is less buggy than in maverick, and, the most important thing : fully integrated gnome 3 is avalaible! And I definitely like it...
But most of times, upgrading ubuntu is a very lonely process... sometimes you are the one who have no problem at all, sometimes everything goes wrong (for me it as 9.04... and my gpu...)

Concerning the studio stuff, the Big leap was between 10.10 and 11.04, with jack and al sa Big modifications

I played with it a bit using the Live CD. Not sure if that counts as a good go

I had a horrible experience when switching from KDE 3.5.x to 4.0.x. I hated KDE 4.0.x-4.3.x so much that I defected to the Gnome camp. I am still on Lucid and I'm not too excited about Unity. (I am aware that GNOME is still available as an option in Ocelot but still.) Also, as Ocelot is the last release prior to a LTS release, I'm afraid it might be a bit more bleeding-edge than other releases. Long story short, I've played with Ocelot a bit but will wait for 12.04.

I am interested, though, if the audio interface of my S4 works out-of-the-box in Ocelot (it doesn't work in Lucid) and will test it when I get a chance.
