You act like you wouldn't ask them to have it set up for you if you were a star.. Fact is these guys come in and make the promoters money. Even with their contracts and riders, these DJs will provide the club promoter far more revenue than a local DJ who has no rider.
Also, as someone said earlier, these guys live their lives on the road so their requests are going to be different than what you and your friends who are local DJs would require.

I also love how whoever wrote that doesn't understand conversions. 1 inch is 2.54 cm…so no matter whether someone dropped a decimal point or something, it was still written by an idiot.
Kinda like that one brand of lightbulb that works 1000 hours or 2000 horas……yay for reading in spanglish…I have to buy light bulbs half as often now.
That part actually makes sense…to a degree. It doesn't make sense that most of them specify all this shit and then clip the fuck out of the mixer's output, though. That's just straight ignant.
I really don't understand this. These people are big name producers so they must know something about mixing and clipping yet so many clip DJ mixers like it's their jobs. It's not like these people will be peaking in the single reds once in a while, I see people all the time just be in the straight double reds with the entire meter on the master output and channels just stay completely lit and not even move (just all LEDs on all the time and hardly even flicker). I don't buy that that's the right way to run pioneer mixers either.
It happens all the time, you need to understand that no promoter worth his salt would ever meet those demands word for word. Also, most of those rigs would cost 1/4 million to build as specc'ed, if not more. The same rig can usually be hired in for maybe $5-15k a night, depending on venue size.
My companies actually relatively small and we roll in with $50-60k just in speaker cabinets to cover 1000 people, that doesn't count amps, processing, consoles, etc, etc. Factor in upkeep as well, and a competent house technician to run it all. Very few venues have that kind of money to throw at an install system, especially if the only have a rez DJ 6 days of the week.
Edit: Canadian Dollars, in case any of those numbers seem off to you guys![]()
