But i agree teach mapping controllers as everyone has a preference

Also teach stuff like converting hid to midi. Hell i think build a controller from nothing (xbox controller) would be great as i have never been so happy trying to build a controller (props djtt)

Although i do believe that technique is what ye want to teach but each individual have their own technique. And tbh controllerests can already usually do the basics of mixing.

I use 2 X1's and a DJTECH I-Mix CE at home, leave the I-Mix at home and use the X1's and either the DJM-600 or 700 depending on where we are jamming, and timecodes if i'm bullied into it

had many controllers over the years (only ctrld diserves the gearwhore title ), now back to 0 again waiting for an S4 maybe with an X1 or similar on the side
