Sure it is. I'm not against controllers of any kind in any way. Sorry if that came out wrong previously.I love em.

True, but let's face it: A lot of those that are new to DJing just don't bother. And if they say, it's technically not necessary anymore, they may even be correct. All I'm saying is that they miss out a very important and helpful learning process that would help them become better DJs and cope with unexpected situations. Like, let's say, a club owner that hates Midi controllers and only lets you play on timecode or CDJs.

and BTW, DvlsAdvct has a good point:

    All I'm saying.

Call me old, call me old fashioned. Just don't call me stupid.
And as far as club owners are concerned, they may be old, stupid and scared. But they own the clubs. So deal with them or leave it and don't get the gig.
I know what you mean about the CDJ100s having that waveform representation, but thers also the fact that it is

    1. small

    2. not parallel

    3. not really zoomed in

    not ranting, jsut saying.

Also I wat not attacking you in my post, i was just replying to the general topic of the thread

But to be honest i think the best middle of the road solution is serato. U can use CDJ's or TT's, you have to beatmatch, and you have parallel, zoomed waveforms with visual peaks in the middle to make it easier

Yes, and I would say 90% of the clubs already have a SL1 or 57, plug & play.

You can you serato on offline mode to analyze/make playlist/cue points/etc...and heck its alot easiler to do it in serato than traktor. And traktor even made a tool to xfer everything to traktor...whoa! Do it once in serato and convert it to traktor...see where im going with this?

You have to learn how to beatmatch. Sync is cool to use (heck i use it)...but its like playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 on EASY!

You have to know your music. Serato & Traktor visually help you...but its your ears that make the proper corrections.

Learn how to use it...and add it to your dj resume!

    You are very right.

Learning how to use another dj tool, is like adding another notch to you belt.

DJ Up&Coming can you play on following?

    [x] cdjs?
    [x] vinyl?
    [x] serato w/Vinyl?
    [x] serato w/CDJs?
    [x] traktor scratch?
    [x] abelton?
    [x] virtual dj?
    [x] custom setup?

The more you check off, the better chance of you scoring gigs.

agreed, some of us just dont have the resources to add versatility though. I will get TTs, a mixer, and serato eventually though (after my production gear that is)

Oh, there's a difference between saying beatmatching is important to learn and some can define it as a necessity (I do, personally) and saying "I don't book DJs who use controllers" which was more where that was directed.

And of course, deal or find a different place to spin. Doesn't mean we need to like it and not get uppity about it. Lord knows I have and it's gotten me gigs because of it (showing respect still, of course).

And I think everyone should learn how to manually beatmatch. You don't need CDJs to do that, and can easily do it with Traktor and a VCI-100 (or any other controller that has either a jog wheel or a relative knob)
    It's the FAQ. Read it.

you dont have own tt or cdj to learn how to play on the. Most clubs already have them. Hook up with fellow djs in your community and learn how to play on there gear. I once had to drive to my friends house 25 miles away to setup my serato and learn how to calibrate the vinyl and the cds.

Heck...I have 1200's & cdj 800 sitting at my house, I always invite djs to come over to play. I have even offered paying gigs for controllerist here in L.A. at my residency but they say no or are too scared to take a gig cuz its something new.

We have to rise up or shut up. Put out....or, wait...this is not a speech. LOL

JesC, jsut to clarify about using serato on offline mode. I know you can map some of the VCI SE to contorl serato (basic stuff like pasuse/play and cue) but I hear u cant map the platters (from what i have searched on the internet at least).

Is this true? I am probably most likely going to download serato anyways to get to know it

you need the serato box to do midi mapping. Cuz if midi was enabled in offline mode you could open serato two times and use the broke man seato in internal mode. You can map almost everything except the scratch feature.

Just be thankfull you have this diversely amount of options to mix on cd/vinyl/dvs/controllers/hybreds.

I started mixing on tapes and non pitch turntables in the 80s which was very hard to do really had to know your records and what ones were same sort of bpm.

If you know your tunes you can pretty much burn your mp3s onto cds and turn up with a cd wallet as majority of clubs have cdjs .
