    So much hate for Tiesto!!

The term dj changed with the sync button just like the lead singer changed with autotune. The purists hate it. The majority of people who just want entertainment don't care either way. In either instance the hacks disappear as quickly as they rose to the top and those who care about the "art" find longevity.

I don;t see the argument between DJing with Ableton...(done in its MANY ways....)....or using Traktor and Midi Controllers. Its all the same.

Only thing is...Traktor is just a DJing tool.

Ableton is a DAW. Therefore it is more...than Traktor is certain aspects....but less in others.

If you produce and use Ableton....i see no reason why you would use Traktor.
If you do not produce....don't Ableton...then use Traktor....or learn to use Ableton if you keen.

If you are setting up your warped full tracks with Automated EQ's to do your MIXING for you...then fuck off.

If you are jamming your clips and messing around with the beats and FX....BOOOYA!
If you can move around in the software and PLAY your set....and change it up....thats what we wanna see.

The Live PA shows are letting producers play their music in a pre outlined manner. Press play and dance.

Thats just not on man....come on!

    Not so?

Oh yeah people have been taking their Haterade for Tiesto for quite a while. Even before Deadmou5 people were hating on him due to lackluster performances, even for sheep standarts, and track selection. Around where I live we have like 2-3 electronica venues weekly and even sheep are learning to differentiate good and bad DJ's.

Armin Van Buuren, David Guetta, Tiësto, Deadmau5, Paul Van Dyk, Ferry Corsten, Afrojack, Judge Jules, Carl Cox, Digweed, Bob Sinclair... these people came in 2010 and the last months of 2011 alone among a whole bunch of other more "obscure" DJ's.

    What we have March 19?

    "Swedish House Mafia”:
    AXWELL
    (Sweeden)
    BENNY BENASSI
    (Italy)
    BLODDY BEETROOTS dj set
    (Italy)
    LIVE SHOW:
    SUBFOCUS
    (U.K.)
    RIVA STARR
    (Italy)
    ADAM FREELAND
    (U.K.)
    TOMMY LEE & DJ AERO
    (U.S.A.)

    More to confirm.....

    MEF (MEGA ELECTRONIC FEST)
SABADO MARZO 19 @ ESTADIO HIRAM BITHORM

    PERFORMERS BY HOME (NYC-VEGAS)
    LAZER SHOW
    100THOUSAND WATTS
STATE OF THE ART SOUND AND LIGHTS SYSTEM.

    $30 TIX
    $60 VIP

Needless to say while Tiësto still makes good business, people that work those shows tell me the attendance has been less and less to the point that if the next show he doesnt pack the stadium, they will be booking more DJ's but less famous along the local crew.

Personally, I've used Traktor afor the past 2 years or so and love it as a DJing tool.

However, I've moved into Ableton and Reason in the past couple of weeks, primarily to produce my own tracks.

However, this led me on to then use it as my DJ tool. My intention is to warp tracks all ready to go, have my produced tunes all set up and ready, have all cue points for my various tracks all loaded up as different Ableton clips, have an entire sample deck ready to go etc. Then, Ableton shines and kicks Traktor's butt as a live, producer, performer and DJ conglomorate tool from what I can see as I can drop my own songs, or any parts like drums, bass, synth, vocal etc any time in the set as well as being able to load up any of my cue points at any time in my set.

However, I still use the A/B decks, crossfader, EQ, filters etc live to give it a live DJing feel rather than just loading one clip after another. Therefore, for me, it seems like the answer to mix pretty much whatever I want, whenever I want.

I think it allows for more flexibility in creation when playing live (as long as you're someone into DJing and producing and have no interest in scratching).

PS - I've always though Tiesto was a Grade A....

Yea, I understand the hate and it's for good reason.. Tiesto will be making his first ever appearance in Buffalo, NY in April and the show sold out in about three weeks.. I sold a part of my soul to buy a ticket. I've been around the scene for my fair share of time to just be amused by it.

Tiesto will be here in San Antonio next month. Despite the hate, this DJ has something positive going on. What I've experienced is a bunch of DJs hating on each other instead of putting their egos aside and putting on a great show with great mixing like Planet Turbo. If you ever open for Tiesto, keep pushing mixing skills. You still haven't arrived. If you play the biggest club in the world, keep pushing mixing skills. You still haven't arrived. If you have the world's most successful music video, keep pushing mixing skills. You still haven't arrived. You're only as great as your last show. The greatest DJs are able to showcase their skills at a high level year in and year out. Today with technology, it's easier to get quick fame performing at several shows, but to maintain your brand, it's really a 24/7 job. Practice every day, read, research, and learn. Even though we have DJ legends, our youth DJs must continue to rise and innovate the art.

Ok so the MC is live but I'm still trying to figure out what Jan and Tiesto are doing help?

If you don't have to spend precious time mixing you can wander around the DJ box looking like a spare prick :P

I was never a huge trance fan... that just looks quite surreal to me!

I'd have to have had a couple of aspirin beforehand to appreciate it I think.

Wow. Bad Story! As I came on this topic, I was sure the question that would be asked is : How many people still mix without a computer or any digital things?...

By the way, I would have been pissed off seeing this supposingly "DJ" faking like that. And you know what, this story is not the only one in that genre.

One day, I got with my friends to the St-Adèle's Bourbon Reopening (up north of Montreal). It was DJ Lopez spinnin' the tables. There's no need to say : I GOT REEALLLY PISSED. You know, the type of guy who just spins for cash, rolling on his name, and doing the WORST CRAP EVER? I mean that while playing, he was doing a lot of OFF-BEAT stuff, BAD TRANSITIONS (crossfading, without any beatmatch) and this sort of crap. HE EVEN ACCIDENTALY TOUCHED THE PLAY/PAUSE BOUTON OF HIS PLAYING DECK!??!! DUDE!?? WTF!?

Anyways, I laughed a lot when I was in the parking lot, hearing everybody like : "DUDE, there is NO WAY that I will be coming back here again!!"....

    • The more famous you are the less you have to do on stage.
    • The less you do on stage the more people notice
    • The more people notice you are doing less on stage the more times your name comes up in the media.
    • The more times your name comes up in the media the more publicity.
    • The more exposure the more famous you are.

    Rinse well and repeat.

Deadmau5 & Tiesto are still selling out gigs regardless of the hate factor.

Most Boyband / Girlband / Solo pop artists don't really sing live, why should a 5/6 figure DJ mix live and risk screwing up in front of 20,000 people (insert sarcasm)

Most punters are sheep and are there to experience a show and listen to tunes, not wonder what latest piece of software and midi controller they are using.

In saying that, my granny would look awesome pretending to play music up there if she had Tiesto's "Visual Experience" behind her
