even without any software installed steve jobs in 1999 will be interested to reverse engineer his own hardware product from 2011 - imagine having the technology of the i7s and DDR3 1333 in 1999 - and possibly being able to replicate them and produce them by 2001?

You have the chance to travel back in time to 1999 to pursue your dream career as a DJ/producer. You can take three and only three pieces of hardware with you. Any PCs or laptops you bring will be restored to their factory default state and you will lose all installed software and media as a result of a time travel paradox- you can't bring any software or media at all unless it is the native firmware to a hardware device.

You cannot sell or loan anything you bring back for research purposes so this should not be a motive. Keep in mind all hardware you bring must interface with other 1999 technology and the current scene. So if you bring a CDJ-2000 back, remember there is still no Beatport or USB flash drives. If you bring a Maschine back, you lose the software and you couldn't install the drivers on a windows 2000 machine anyway.

Yeah, give up everything you own, your friends and family, lose all modern technology, you can't help humanity or make a profit, but on the other hand you can take a very small amount of DJ gear which is be pretty useless anyway as well as being impossible to repair.

Realistically though how much more is there to control on the DB4 other than have dedicated knobs for each effects unit? Surely not enough for two K2s.

not just for each effects unit - for each effects and the setting you like, just like on the midifighter mappings. Possibilities in theory are endless.
