So their target market is to those who can afford 200 bucks? That makes no sense.

It's not cheap by any means, I agree.

However, with regards to the 4-deck statement made earlier, don't forget that the Z1 ships with Traktor LE, which - afaik - is 2-deck.

I'm not sure I saw a definitive answer on this: Can you hook up an X1 and the the Z1 to an iPad and use both? Or would you only be able to connect the Z1 and have to do your effects / play / pause / whatever on the iPad itself?

there are more people willing to spend $200 than $2000 for the same functionality is the ethos for any controller company.

The Z1 is the only controller you can use in TDJ at the moment.

I'd love to see some hard statistics on this, but I get the feeling that FAR more people use non-timecode setups than timecode ones. NI's bread and butter is more and more becoming completely digital setups, so more pieces of gear without audio inputs is most likely the way we're going.

A report on the number of Traktor Scratch vs Traktor Pro licenses purchased this year would be interesting to see... I nominate Karlos to ask NI nicely for some stats

Pretty much all clubs will have a mixer installed already. Why should you have to bring your own mixer?

Your X1 already controls FX so I don't see what the point of having a Z1 is. DJM 750+ have a whole bunch of FX anyways if you aren't using Traktor.
