This is where the "artists should get paid" stance hits a grey area... of course people are legit on all levels ... or on some levels.. or on no levels...

lets say dudmouse makes his music on an illegal installation of windows and using illegal pluggins... the momemnt dudmouse makes a penny... then he should be fined and thrown into jail for STEALING. Regardless of people paying cash for VINYL or DIGITAL ,,, Why support illegal activity?
They're just as "in the wrong" as people stealing the music. It just comes down to a personal moral issue and since "pandora's box" has been opened only you can decide how you feel about it and what you'll do. It sounds like you're trying to justify something you might feel a tad guilty about. I'm not going to change your mind, nor is anybody else. If you feel justified that just taking somebodies work is ok, unfortunately, nobody can stop you but when that person who made that track or plugin you LOVE, no longer makes music or software because they can't eke a living out of it then you'll be left with whatever that huge multiconglomerate coporation wants to shove down the throats of the masses. Totally homogenized, watered down product.

trying to go back on topic.. your all going to die very soon anyways.. 2012 is right around the corner.. if you own the vinyl.. then DL it ... you will save yourself alot of time.. and time is money.. and if it comes down to it... show the vinyl as proof... but if you have 100k songs and a 2TB drive.. then you are fucked...

CBP can scan your hard drive if they want, there will be a point where they will be obligated to report supspicious amounts of data.. but its not at this point yet...

Thats why I used to travel with all my mp3s in a true crypt volume which no CBP will beable to forcebreak the encryption.. They can however make an image of the drive and send it to CIA. But this is only if your coming from a country on the list.. and look a stereotypical bad guy.
CBP is not looking for mp3s.. but they can by law take your drive... so better not have your shit out in the open

HAH! To even scan your laptop they have to root it to have access. Which mean's port scanning and pen testing. If you have firestarter, which is like Norton on crack for linux, you can usually see attacks like this as they happen in real time. You just have to know what to watch out for. If you're real good, your router will keep a log of the incoming IP address of the attack and you can DDOS the bitch with a 50 dollar botnet.

    good musicians get pirated.

great musicians get pirated more, and sell records.

if your music is worth something, at least some people will pay for it. the internet has let the consumer decide whether what you're making is worth the dime.

stop crying about losing all your money and make better music. like you were making a living off it or something? get real..

edit: ^^ that may sound harsh to some, let me explain: i know many dudes signed to many labels, some being BIG labels (for EDM), and they ALL have day jobs. all of them. and it's not because they're getting pirated, it's because NO ONE except a top few guys are selling enough units to make the big bucks.

So what ur saying is the OP should have to pay TWICE for somthing he already owns?

oh right ur a label owner, of course you want to be paid twice.....

Please if he owns it on vinyl there is no reason he should not be able to DL it from wherever and however he decides to acquire said tracks. hes not taking money or food out of your mouth, U GOT PAID ALREADY.

I bet a label owner like you cant wait for the next big media change up so everyone has to buy everything all over again, vinyl, 8 track, tape, cd, mp3. BAH!! I feel no remourse if i bought it on tape and CD Im DLing from where ever, U dont deserve to be paid twice or there times in some cases (pink floyd & green day, Im looking at u here) for somthing.

Actually that's not true at all and IS Illegal. I'm sure there's no disclaimer or link that came with the vinyl for a digital download, although it'd be cool if there were, which makes taking a digital copy technically illegal. I understand why you think it's ok to do, but I don't agree with it.

I dont feel guilty at all for my interest in the wild west of electronic piracy days... That was then, this is now. I also am not ashamed of my less than 200 song itunes collection. Every plugin or software I have on my laptop is legit. Years ago I just threw all my spindles of cds dvds away... no point in keeping evidence. Now my biggest issue is what to do with my vinyl. Especially since its mostly jungle and dnb

I would love to see this challenged in a court of law.

EDIT: and not only that, If he owns the vinyl copy of the song, HOW are THEY whomever THEY may be going to prove he DLed said track & didnt record it himself? outside of illegal surveillance of OPs internet connection of course. frogstar????

Well this is an extreme case. the Op is talking about vinyl he owns.

As for your paranoia, Idk man, you brought up 2012, and made it sound like we are all living in a police state. I think i read somthing about scanning drives. very Orwellian. LOL!!!
