The entertainment industry has always been full of clowns! Who cares? Some people are talented artists/actors/ musicians, etc.. and some people use gimmicks to gain fame. They are still entertainers who have the balls to put themselves out there in front of everyone, and deserve respect for at least doing that. You don't see Morgan Freeman hating on Tyler Perry for being a no-talent hack, and Vanilla Ice didn't ruin the the entire genre of hip hop.

If you don't like someone's music, or think their stage show is stupid, that's fine. You're entitled to your opinion. But there's no one holding a gun to the heads of the millions of kids who go apeshit at festivals and have the time of their lives watching these guys. Why do you care if they like mass-marketed, media driven acts? Chances are they wouldn't be into your exclusive, underground micro-genre anyway, so it's literally no loss to you. In fact, these clowns probably make your tracks/act look better by comparison, so maybe you should thank them!

Intoxicated /adj./ When you feel sophisticated without being able to pronounce it.

Aoki is a producer. He makes music, people like his music, and he deserves to play it one way or another because it's his and people want to hear it. People like him, because they like his music.

If he didn't make any of that music, and just Dj's it and hops around then there would be a problem, but it seems that DJing Electronic music is really the easiest, most idealistic (no, don't say "why don't they just play it from behind the stage") way to play electronic music.

If there were some miraculous way to perform every piece of an EDM track after creating it yourself, i'm sure Aoki would do that. But there really isn't any way to REALLY perform electronic music live entirely (yet).

In the end, I just think comparing Aoki to a real DJ is kinda dumb, just cause he doesn't really claim to be a DJ, he makes music, people want to hear him "play" it for them (and not just someone with the equipment and license) live. If you want to be a DJ and not produce your own music, so be it, get good at DJing, figure it out. Want to produce? People like your music? do whatever the hell you want.

Sure there is, more people are doing it now more than ever. Some are using Ableton and playing their songs, and deconstructing them and twisting them up that way, some are actually playing with a midi keyboard or synth to compliment it, and some go balls out and actually have all the drum machines, synths and FX units up on stage with them.

If all Steve Aoki is doing, and with how much he's making, that's even less of a reason why he should be going down the DJ route and try focusing more on doing a live PA set up. So now he really is engaged with the music and has a more direct connection with the crowd instead of just throwing cake at them between mixes.

This is a different topic, but I got some news for ya buddy... a lot of these so called "producers" aren't producing anything except a poop in the toilet everyday. These rich kids, grown men and others pay real producers like myself to make their music for them and they get to slap their name on it... its well known amongst the small community of edm who the real producers are and who all these big name fraud guys are... You would be so surprised.

"Sorry guys, I won't be performing my actual tracks today. Instead I'm going to throw cake at you. Enjoy!"

I would be rather upset if I had to be all cake sticky for the rest of a music festival or cranberry juice sticky, At nocturnal and I am sure he has at other music festivals he got in his little raft and rode on top of the crowd just pointlessly pouring cranberry juice on people. I just do not understand it.

Yeah....this topic has been spoken about locally here in our Psytrance scene.

    The Whole...IS IT LIVE debate.

Is he just standing there POSING....or is he playing LIVE?

Similarly, these producers are faking. Its fucking disgusting...

How can you go to sleep at night, knowing that you are a total cop-out...scammer...cheat...fake....and not have that weigh on your mind?

    $$

Yep, does he care? His house is paid for.

Uhm, I don't understand the problem? There are always clowns in the COMMERCIAL music scene. It's made to attract large masses. If you like that, go watch those DJ's. If you don't, you DON'T... It's really easy. I never once went to a party where it was about the DJ acting goofy and stuff like that. It's always about the music. Pick your places and your scene people. The oldschool vibes are still out there.

Agreed. If you don't like it, don't listen to it. I just don't understand the anger...
