    Waits for the influx of 'Irish' Americans to this thread (no, just because you ate a potato once and might have drunk some Guinness this does not make you Irish - you have to be able to claim a grandparent for it to count)

    Oh, and I intend to be sampling some of you many and varied whiskeys tonight (mostly as Guinness is, well, a bit of a shit stout isn't it ...)

    This can be true!! It definitely doesn't travel well, Never tastes the same as in Ireland

    Had it in Dublin, and at the brewery, it was OK - I prefer things like the Meantime London Porter / Bristol Beer Factory Milk Stout or Darkstar Espresso Stout or for my dark beer

    I didn't know they did 'special brews' of Guinness either - I think they had North Star and another one with Red in the name when I was last over there.
