Default Has The Pirate Bay Ship Finally Sunk.

"it is theft by any other name"

Thats the quote from the industry.
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8003799.stm

I know this will spark debate. But i see it like this.

I go up to someone i dont know and i say "the people who live next to me keep a key under the mat. Its up to you if you rob them"

All this shit about "we dont host the stuff" is crap.
The people who sell guns dont kill people, the people who buy the guns kill people. Rubbish.
    All bollocks in my opinion.
    All aiding crime.

And NO this isnt about Free Speech or Freedom Of Information. Its about theft.

    *runs aways from lynch mob*

Swedish Tingsrätt (where they just have been found guilty) is a joke. Basicly none of the people deciding who is guilty or not has got any kind of education in law and order. Thats why its just a theater. The verdict was out before it was supposed to and one of the defendants lawyers says its ludicrous that the court is leaking information.

And i think you need to do more research about what they actually have been doing. And nothing of what they have been doing is a crime in sweden. And its in sweden where the trail is and thats why they should be using the swedish law not fall for some american lobby organization with loads of money backing them up. They will appeal and it will probably go all the way to the Supreme Court and that will take at least 5 years and by the time it gets there the technique is already really old.

Is piratebay a crime? No its not
    Is piratebay ethical? probably not.

but its not a crime to be un-ethical its just not considered nice

Re: The Music Industry: Genuinely, i have little sympathy for labels that manipulate the law to suit themselves. Lables which have the lack of scruples to, for example, release a "tone by tone" cover version of "Knights of the Jaguar" after Underground Resistance would not license it to them.

The music industry has never been a fair and equitable way for artists to release music. Artists' share of profits has usually been small in comparison with the overall revenue generated. Often with the startup costs recouperated out of their share of the profits. So i don't cry for the death of the music industry as it currently stands.

Boohoo Mick in A&R doesn't have a 150,000 dollar bonus to blow on cocaine. My heart bleeds.

Having said that there's no currently viable way for artists to release tracks currently and to maintain an income, and this leads to the rise of corporate sponsorship and so on which has many negative sides - bland homogenization being one of them. Thus making them more like the film industry. Anyone who'se seen the 15 minute car advert intro to Quantum of Solace will know what i mean.

Next single by Kanye West: Gucci bags are a bargain at 1000 eurasian dollars.

With Pirate Bay down, someone else will just take their place, it's not the end of the world just a pointless roadrunner cartoon until somebody comes up with a way of making money taking advantage of these new technologies.

Ethics and Law are very closely linked.
Maybe this shows that the Law in Sweden is lacking. They have been proved to be 'breaking the law' in Sweden. Theatre or not they HAVE broken the law and broken it in Sweden even if the court is almost powerless.

Theres no defence for stealing and no defence for enabling other people to steal.

Its childish to think that its nothing other than theft by other means.

Since they are appealing they aren't criminals yet you remember?

Law is one thing ethics is another.

you should never ever be convicted of something if it isn't a crime.

Agreed. No-one can argue with that.
It does seem that they have been charged though.

    The Site continues.
There will be a series of appeals apparently and there is an application to seize there servers but they are all in different countries so this is far from over.

I realise that Ethics and Law are separate , im have a Political Philosophy Degree, i said they are closely linked.
Dont 'you' think its quite rare that people have been charged for Breaking Copyright Laws in Sweden.
The law is notoriously lax and liberal on these matters in Sweden. Do you think the authorities are trying to make an example of T.P.B . ?

I am interested in your 'localised' opinion. Im guessing your Swedish ?
