    Default Track Preparation

Regarding track preparation...I made a mapping for the Xone:K2 which I built off of Photojojo's great x1 mapping and plan to upload.

One concept I haven't seemed to wrap my head around is the whole process of setting the tick and syncing to master clock. In Ean Golden's S2/S4 prep mapping, he first sets the master clock to reflect the tracks BPM, then syncs the track back to the master clock....

WHY is this necessary? How is this any different than ignoring the MASTER clock altogether and simply beatgridding off of the TRACK deck's tick instead of the MASTER clock's tick?

Is it wrong if I ignore the MASTER tick and simply beatgrid from the TRACK tick? Or is the whole round about master clock syncing trickery really necessary?

In case I've confused anyone, here are some pictures of what I'm referring to.

maybe one of three things is going on here
    A) You posted during the weekend while most officiates are working elsewhere, so you wont get answers
    B) Like myself, i dont quite understand what the actual question is (because it starts to ramble)
    C) yes 100+ views with no answers. Have you noticed how many posts are on these forums?

That's not necessary. Ean made that macro button trick just to speed up whole gridding process. If you want to replicate prep tool I suggest you to download his mapping, sort it by control and re-map whole thing to your controller so you can have better idea what's going on in this particular type of mapping.

    Hey Stewe,

I think my question is still a bit difficult to understand so I'll try to elaborate a little better. Initially, I did exactly what you described and carbon copied Ean's mapping into my prep mapping. While trying to pick apart what he did in the mapping and simplify the process, here is the part of the mapping which I'm trying to understand the relevance of.

    1. Turn Auto Master Off
    2. Set Master clock BPM to match Track BPM
    3. Sync Track to master clock
    4. Turn Auto Master back On
    5. Turn on Master Clock Tick and beatgrid.

instead...why not take all that out and simply do this...

    1. Turn on Track Tick and beatgrid

The extra steps he takes to lock together the master clock and track seem like they could be forgotten altogether by simply using the TRACK tick instead of the MASTER tick....I only posted this to see if someone could confirm this for me to make sure I'm not crazy and misunderstanding how this all works.

im not sure if it matters here but keep in mind the Ean's mapping was done in and for Traktor 2.5 while you might be working with 2.6
There couple be a compatibility issue

Should be running with 2.6 as well since NI only added few commands which are regardless to master clock page.

Don't think version has much to do with it as track tick and master tick aren't recent additions (Ean's video even shows both in plain sight)...unless track tick was somehow broken in past versions. In any case, I think I will assume it was just a simple oversight on his part and go back to using Track Tick to keep things simple for my mapping. I wasn't knocking Ean in any way with this post, he's obviously super innovative. It's just that I've been using track tick for as long as I can remember and wanted to be sure that all my old beat grids (and mapping) were all still functional having done things the simple way.
