Default Help out a MIDI n00b

I've always had plug & play equipment and have reached a point of utter boredom and and want to do more/learn a new way of doing things. I have never had to map anything before, so I'm sure there is a step I'm missing. I would like to use my existing gear & s/w before I start tossing money at my setup. Since I'm new to this whole process, I figured I'd come to where the knowledge is.

I tried to connect my Evolution MK-225c to Traktor 3 over the weekend without success. Traktor recognizes the device, but whenever I click learn and move a knob or press a key, Traktor doesn't receive any data. I tried this with USB power, A/C Power, as well as both of those power setups with a MIDISport attached to the MIDI Out on the controller, and they all failed.
At that point, I d/l'ed MIDI Test and got an "Unexpected Data" message. Which I believe (and correct me if I'm wrong) means that I need some kind of MIDI engine/mapping utility like Enigma or MIDI-Ox. I know the Enigma engine works for some Evolution equipment, but sadly my controller is not supported. Is a MIDI Engine what I need to fix this, or is there something else I need to do?

Any help would be most appreciated. cheers!

what are the in and out ports? make sure they are set to that piece of gear and not 'all ports' or something else.

you can check by going to the mapping for your controller

    this should solve it.

2 words: Traktor Bible. It will teach you everything. Bomes is really more for if your building a custom controller.

Edit: after reading again, Bomes can help you with the mapping problem

MidiOx is also to test messages coming in and out. You need to know what is being sent to use Bomes, regardless.

Are all the drivers for your controller up to date for your OS?

    Default I'm a genius

Sooooo, it all came down to not having an active audio output selected...as soon as I changed that...everything mapped just fine. I feel like an A$$ now...but I'm also now VERY excited. thanks for all the input. I will def check out the Traktor Bible.
