Shure SM58 is my standard gig & home-studio mic for both instruments and vocals. If you're looking solely at vocals, say in a home recording both or whatnot, you might want to give some of the Blue Microphones a try, I've heard great things about their Blueberry mic.

Blueberry is what I was going to say. I knew a couple people who used those for studio vocals. It's good quality off the bat too, or at least I'd guess so... they had multiple releases pressed on vinyl.
