    *Resurrect old thread*

ok so personally, and MAYBE its a lil cheating, but Ive found great success using or making genre busting tracks. take for example:

    http://soundcloud.com/smashgordondes...-kill-smash-up

La Roux ... Take Le Castlevania remix, splice at the right place with Skrillex remix... viola transitional track.

Luna C put out 2 DJ tool packs that are full of tracks that do this between various tempos and genres (mainly hardcore and dnb)

Ive done one myself using Sound System Speaking by The Ataris and the original: Play it Loud by Far Too Loud.

With as many different remixes as are out for so many tracks these days, I think creating genre busting edits is the way to go.

couldn't be bothered checkin if this one has been shared yet...

but a super cool trick is mixing tracks with a track that has a bpm divided or multiplied by 1.5

    ex.

    mix a 130bpm tune into a 86.7bpm tune ( /1.5 )

    or a 130 bpm tune into a 195 bpm tune ( X1.5 )

wait... how does that even work? how do you beat match that? those tracks will never stay on

it's triplets, so when you divide or multiply a bpm by 1.5 you get bpm that mixes into the original bpm at 3/4 instead of 4/4.

it works best when the beat drops out and you're left with just some light percussion, vocal or fx elements of the original tune, so that you can mix into the beat of the tune that's playing at X1.5 time.

the timing effect is the same as if you use a delay set at 3/4 or 3/8, it has that cool jazzy stagger to it. get me?

but yeah try it out, i can't explain it better than that. cheers

on and off for a few things, also handy when trying to grid a particularly slow track, actually have some lower tempo stuff gridded on triplets on purpose.

been thinking about this trick for the thing in my sig...
