Default Group Effect mapping for Traktor

    Hi folks,
First post here. I've been mapping my controller the last days to work with Traktor, and so far I'm happy with the result...besides the control for effects. I came across this video: and it looks like something I want now
I see a combination of the jogwheel, pitch & volumesliders to control the amount of the effect (or one slider to shift between the effects, not sure - thing is happening to fast).
Can anyone help me out with the basic of such a mapping; what bothers me is that my jogwheel and sliders are obviously used for their 'logic' functions, so I need a modifier to turn that use off? I have a Hercules 4MX, and it comes with a shift button, I could probably use to turn the effect functions on or off - If I learn how to make a modifier out of that?

    Thanks!

Basically you would create a toggle type modifier button which when it's set to OFF (modifier=0) all of your controls that you wish to double function will interact with basic transport commands as it should, then once the button is set ON (modifier=1) those same controls would switch to control your pre mapped effects.

If you feel like sharing your mapping, I would care looking at and help you set up the mapping for the Jog+Fader effects to get you started with adding that functionality.

    Regards,

So good so far; thanks Stewe.
I used the shift button to switch between the basic control and the effect control. This shift button also turn effect group one ON, and the individual effects are turned on the moment I change the amount (turn effect on and effect amount are mapped to the same controller).
This makes a new problem. I can only turn effects ON, but how do I turn them OFF?

I would like a mapping somehow like this: 1. Press the shift button to enter the"FX mode". 2. Hold a button to turn a effect (and effect group) temporarily ON, while changing the amount of the effect with a controller like the volume fader 3. releasing the button I held, so turning off the effect and effect group...

    Or something like that
Any ideas on turning effects off?

Your shift button should be armed with one modifier to be able to share same button in a different layers.

    Add In > Modifier 1 / M1=0 / type=button / interaction=direct / value=1
    Add In > Modifier 1 / M1=1 / type=button / interaction=direct / value=0

Make this two entries and midi learn them to the shift button. If you do it successfully you can notice the value is changing in the little modifier value slots in the controller manager. Value should be toggling 0, 1, 0, 1 etc each time you press the shift button. Now you can use this two values to set up your second layer of the mapping.

Let's say we need a Play button and have the Loop as a secondary (Shift+) function.

    Add In > Deck Common > Play/Pause / Modifier Condition of M=0
Add In > Deck Common > Loop Set / Modifier Condition of M=1

I'll give it a try this afternoon, although I think that's how I did this.
I had another look to that video - it looks like the individual effects are only active on the time the amount is changed. When the amount isn't changed, the effect flips back off.
How can that be done? Obviously effect ON and effect amount have to be mapped to the same button on the controller, but that again, doens't turn it off?

Ok. Clear a few things up so I can also provide some input.
It looks like Ean is using that controller for FX only. Using fader/pitch and jog for the 3 sub effects.
What unit are you using? And do you want to use your controller in a normal capacity as well?
These things can get a tad complicated, with multiple modifiers, and depending on the controller you use can very well determine the complexity of your mapping. Does your controller have a seperate bank of controls for FX?

To answer your question about the auto effect on/off, that's easy explained. Effect amount, and fx on is set to 'hold' on the same fader/platter, so it only turns on when the control is used. The 3rd effect is activated as an 'exit' when the fader is at a certain fader point. In this case, down low/flat.
