Default Recording / prefrences / length of mix?

I want to make a mix for a friend to fit to one CD. Im going to record inside TP.

For recording, what preferences should I have selected?

How long should I aim my mix to be?

If I wrote to a DVD disc, can I make the mix longer?

I realize these are simpleton questions, but I have never recorded before and I promised a friend a mix by this afternoon...

    your help is kindly appreciated

Make it as long as you want mate, just keep an eye on the file size when you go ahead and record. a good idea is to change the split to 2048 in the recording preferences, which gives you about 2 1/2 hours before the file splits.

yep, keep an eye on the data volume of your mix-file (upper-right corner!)
a cd can have up to 700 mb, a dvd 4,3 gb

personally 1 hour + is what I aim for, make sure the file size on Traktor is set to higher than 700mb as well, then start your mix if you do decide on an hour or more you can easily import it to Itunes, then covert to AAC or MP3 it will easily fit on a disk, converting it will shrink the file down to about 130-150mb

either way have fun with it!

Yeah, for a CD, shoot for between 1 hour and 1:20. Then you should be golden.

Burn the WAV to CD and bounce the file down to mp3 for sharing.
