    Default Denon DN-X120 phono preamp?

    Hi guys,
I have a denon dn-x120 which I use as external mixer and well, today I decided to listen to some of my dads LP's through this baby. So I hooked up the turntable to the mixer (phono input 1). Now the strange thing is that I hear the sound only very quietly through the mixer! I'm sure I'm using the phono input and I've set the switch to phono1 so that can't be the problem. Does the DN-x120 have a built in phono preamp or is that the problem?
To get anywhere near a normal sound level I have to crank the GAIN up to 10 and then the headphone output (through which I listen) like half way! Thats strange because normally the gain sits below 5 and headphone level is about 3.
    Am I doing it wrong?
