compared to what though?
your forgeting about the stand... plugs, adaptors....
And what are you going to do in a tight dj booth in the middle of someones set trying to set up with no space and 2 of the djs friends/bimbos saying after your set they are going to be spinning... so moving the turntable is not an option... and the laptop that is already setup on the house laptop stand stays...
That stress is 0 when just arriving with a cd wallet and headphones.
For some... not all.... using tracktor with autosync is for handicapped djs who try and put the icing on the cake without even knowing how to make the cake. Im not putting down traktor or serato... Im just saying... If I wanted to teach a 12 year old with no experience at all.. I could show him or her the basics of how to pull off perfectly autosynced track mixing with a playlist they can copy from online and they will be able to DJ what would not be possible without lots of hours of practicing with CDJs or vinyl.
Its so easy to dj nowadays with loads of gear and software that on one level or another using CDJs and turntables is probally also a matter of dignity for the top djs who have been there and got tshirt long before software was around to do all the work for them. Not all djs of course.. when I was living in berlin the last 10 years... Ive experienced a few Richie Hawtin sets, and he rocks it using traktor quite well and is doing things in an amazing way.. If he was just fading in and fading out.. then I would say hmmm... but he is on the level where he doesnt need to worry about space because in his case clubs will cater to what he needs..
