i was thinkin' more of huey lewis and the news mixed with pink floyd's money, but starting HIGH and UPBEAT AND FAST and ending SLOW AND DEPRESSING.

i'd call it "thing's falling apart"
"This is the soundtrack to the nightmares in which I can't wake up. I'm about to be murdered, or I'm being forced to jump off a cliff. Thank you."

Um... I think NIN starts more fast and angry and gets slow and depressing. Nothing about his music is upbeat like Huey Lewis

It was more or less a fast to slow reference and the title "thing's falling apart". Which was a 2000 nin release.

True. His albums really were hitting you over the head and watching you bleed to death.
