Default What is your day job? (If any)

While some of you can live the glamorous life of being a DJ and get the bills paid, some of us need to get up early and do the crappy stuff to make our employers richer. This makes me think about some stuff...

    1) If you are doing gigs, how do you manage to get up early? You could maybe be caffeinated during work hours but this cant be done for too long. Specially if you sometimes have to work at home.

    2) Djing is not a cheap "hobby". I have seen the "Show us your setup" post and I have seen a lot of pricey stuff with multiple computers and gadgets, dedicated rooms and what not. You must be rollin' in the dough!

    3) With DJing and computers going hand in hand I think maybe most of you with a day job should have something computer related. IT manager, Db administrator, Linux demigod etc...

    ---

    Me?

IT System Admin. DJ practice/new music hunt is moderately compromised by extra workload I need to finish at home besides home/family duties. I wish I could take my VCI100/MPD32 to work but I managed to install a demo version of Traktor and Ableton very hidden on my work computer. Although the pay is good is not that I cant buy more equipment but that I would not have the time to learn and configure properly more gadgetry.

    railway signalling design engineer.

boring job but i get lots of overtime when needed and it more than pays the bills.

would love to jack it all in to be a pro dj though.

I'm the Director of Audio Visual at a hotel here in the Bay Area. The pay is decent... enough to pay the bills, but more importantly, it allows for a lot of free time to work on DJ'ing and producing.

This is fairly new though, up untill about 3 months ago, I was only a tech, slaving away 50+ hours of the week for much less pay :/

Wow! Just realized we have very similar lives. I too have a VCi-100 and MPD32, as well as Traktor and Reason installed at work

Aerospace systems engineer, finishing certification on our first fly-by-wire primary flight control. I specialize in hydro.mechanical but am doing more and more hw/sw integration...

Paperwork job, but I get to play at our supplier's test rig sometime (they let me "play" in 16 hr shifts if I'm not careful). Pay is good, but it HAS to be.

    Phil.

P.S. As of May 1, I'm taking 7 months off. I said the pay was good, didn't I?

OK, am I the only non-engineer in here... I'm going to school for political science and communications, but it seems you are all like hardcore math lovers. Hell I literally don't have a single math related course in my curriculum haha
