    Default MAC Clean-up

    Hello DJTT,

Just wondering for all the mac users... what do you do to free up some harddrive space?

I have a smart folder on my desktop that collects all files over 1gb. I'll check it periodically and clear out stuff I've burned to disc, but forgot to delete. I keep meaning to make smaller incremental folders, 500 mb, 250 mb etc....

I'm probably going to start doing that & When deleting an application you just put it in the trash bin and its gone right?? Cause that's how I've been doing it

you gotta empty the trash for it to be wiped from the hard drive (and get more space), go to Finder->Empty Trash

i use Disk Inventory X to see what exactly is taking up space on my disk:

I have a question sort of along the same lines, when I have installed demo version of vst's and the likes and then removed them they still show up in Ableton, is there a way to remove them?

    yes & no....

when you move the application to the trash and delete it the application is gone, but there may be some files that were part of that program lingering around that you don't need. Technically your mac deletes these files for you overnight, but if your mac is off overnight when these scripts are supposed to run then they obviously won't run. So using a program like Onyx or similar type of program will ensure the removal of these files...

Also here is a really good article on whether or not you should be shutting down your computer every night... http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/app...shut-down.html
