I'd vote in this fairly pointless poll but already voted with my cash a couple of years ago. AmigaOS all the way baby!

Oh bugger it, I'll wade in anyway...

I'm assuming you are of school/college age, mainly because I've had a few bevvies and can't see straight:

In 3-4 years you will be making the same decision again no matter what you choose.
If you aren't going to college/uni to do art or music, you will be using a pc. So you'll need to know how they work/don't work.

Plenty of people run DJ software on their PCs (me being one, although I spanked the hundreds of pounds I saved on beer, drugs and hookers)

They said the Titanic couldn't be sunk etc... kernel panic anyone?

Anyway. Bit of devil's advocacy there. If I was getting a laptop for deejaying and deejaying only now I'd consider a Mac.

I use an older Macbook for just about everything I do. It runs Pro Tools, SSL, Ableton, Logic, etc. all fine. I haven't had any issues with software/file compatibility, and except for Flash, I don't have any qualms about using an older laptop. I'll upgrade the day the warranty runs out, but I don't see a need to do it until then (late next year).

The lies about needing a PC to do work at university are founded in nothing. Universities have labs. If they have software that you need to use that only runs on PCs (like Autocad) they'll have labs dedicated to it because it's freaking expensive software.

Chances are, you'll be using the lab a little–depending on your major–to use software for free that you'd otherwise have to pay for. For me, it was SPSS and Sigma Plot.

Do what you want, but unless Apple screws over OS X the same way they and at&t have the iPhone and iPad…i'm not buying anything else.

That's a legit concern, though they did create the universal binary spec and maintained it for a long time (in the computer world). I'm glad I didn't get burned by that, but I could understand being pissed if you bought a PowerMac or something right before the switch.

Frankly, I think they handle those kinds of things better than a lot of people…case in point, I'm running Leopard on a G4 PowerMac to use as a server just because I can. I don't use that computer for anything music related, but I haven't had any real problems even with OS updates, security patches, server software, etc. on it. It still just works. It's slow as molasses for anything but web browsing, but it works just fine to host pictures that I post to forums and as an SSH/AFP server.

No worries, to be honest I just troll these mac/pc threads these days because I'm so bored of the same endless debate going rahnd and rahnd and rahnd. It doesn't matter what you say because you'll never affect the result: I've tried
