    Default DJ Lessons

    Hey guys

So I was wondering, if people started asking you to teach them to DJ what would you charge, if anything. I have been asked by a few people to show them the ropes and while I can't teach scratching I can teach almost everything else for a mix DJ (EQ, faders, samples, most CD decks, effects, etc.). It would probably be around 1 hour a week or something.

I know that we have the Scratch Academy here which is, like, $300 an hour or something.

What would you guys ask for?

Oh it's bad. They offer classes and everything, and you get taught by "the best DJs in the world" or something, but it's all based around hip-hop and scratching and stuff. And they use industry standards, like Reason 2.5 and SSL... :-/

    anyway

I figured between $40 and $50 would work. When I was in high school and took private lessons for trumpet it was about $50 but that was 10 years ago and she was a, well, real musician, whereas I'm a pretend DJ ;-)

A friend of mine is giving Ableton Live classes. He teaches a group of 6 and receives 15euros a person. So that's 90 bucks per class.

    Not too bad I guess.

not too bad at all, and a LOT less than what people around here charge for stuff like that.

Gonna cover mixing, beat matching, equipment set up, basic audio, break down of CDs and digital. Going to focus mainly on CDs cause I'm one of the very... very few in this scene in NYC who uses a laptop right now (Subvert being the other, and maybe one or two more floating around). Still a lot of stigma on it.

I figure between $50 and $60 per hour
