I'm in the market to get some new monitor speakers for doing some production (remixes n such) was wondering if anyone had any suggestions / recommendations.

You can't go wrong with the KRK's. I work with a pair of RP5's in my apartment. They get plenty loud when you need them too and the sound quality is great. If you're looking for some more bang I would suggest the RP8's (these take up a lot more space though).
Good luck!
Native Instruments Kontrol S4
Apple Macbook (OS/X 10.5)
Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz (3MB L2 cache)
2GB PC5300 DDR2-667
I've heard mixed about the KRK's... but I think the best place to start is a budget. Then we can really break down what's good.
Got a pair of Event ASP8's and I couldn't be happier.
They have a full sounding low to mid range great for hip-hop.
a few things to consider as mentioned...
budget
the type of music you will be producing / remixing
will these speakers also be used for dj sets at home
will the speakers need to travel
what kind of connections do you need for your sound card
passive or active speakers
- if passive then you need amplification
- if active then you need a power supply
do you want stereo or surround or a sub woofer
how much space are you limited to
I myself will be getting some 2nd hand monitors soon from a mate who is upgrading...

If money is no object, go for the Mackie HR series.
They're bloody brilliant. My friend uses them for his professional mixes and these active monsters are the bomb!
(We also use them as we're busy finalising our own projects.)

There's such a huge range of monitors for a broad budget that it would be very helpful to know how much you want to spend. It also depends on what kind of music you're mixing, as different monitors have different strengths.
Generally if you don't have a lot of money, I'm a big fan of Events and KRKs (though I prefer the old KRK V6s to the newere Rokits). If money is no option, Genelecs are amazing. If you can spend a bit but ain't rich, Mackie HR 824s are the flattest, cleanest monitors in their price range that I've ever heard.
I kind of agree with everyone here. after producing for many years and testing out many monitor pairs. The best lower cost options:
events, krks
and if you can afford them get a pair of 8" genelecs with a inexpensive sub.
Then you will be very happy. I have the 4" genelcs for travelling and even they are sooo nice
