    Default Sample of...sample of...smpl of...splof

I don't usually post random thoughts because, despite being a self-proclaimed genius and often admired by my peers, I am in fact average at best...unless beer is involved. So with the pre-emptive, face saving disclaimer here is my thought of the day (minute(

Over the years i've noticed a sort of razzle dazzle game of musical era sampling, i.e. Disco, funk, Motown etc. to 80s glam rock, reggae and on. This past year or so, many of us have noticed a certain fetish for American swing and big band horn stabs in different dance genres. At what point does the resurrection of pop culture and underground sounds run out of a source? Is dance music ultimately going to run out of material and depend entirely on technique or technology to blend....everything into a black hole. 40 years from now will creatives draw on YouTube or some obscure tribe in wherever in an attempt to extract something pure? Or will everything be recycled...rcycld...rcld

Maybe I should just keep my thoughts to myself?

It will change, that is all. There is still classical music being written and that has been around for hundred's of years. And it is much more limited in sound design as it is usually restricted to specific instrument sounds.

Electronic music will be around for a long time, and will rip off and steal from TONS of genres. That's what all music does. 40 years from now... god... who knows what pop dance music is gonna sound like. We don't even know what music will sound like 10 years from now. And after the big record companies crash, who knows what'll fill the void.
    It's the FAQ. Read it.

can't remember where, but i read a fatboy slim quote that said he'd have to stop producing because he's running out of things to sample - admittedly this was in jest, but kind of has a point

Yeah, I think I was vaguely tongue-in-cheek and partly serious. I tend to be very rigid in logic and draw conclusions on seemingly unrelated patterns and systems w/o taking into consideration unforeseen influences. Thus DvlsAdvct's comment: "It will change, that is all". ...Smart people sum things up quickly hehe.

dance is now sampling itself, but it always did,
    binary finary '98........'99........'00
teisto doing adagio for strings after ferry corsten did it,
    SHM doing show me love.

dance has always used sampling as has hiphop, and with melodyne DNA i expect to see more sampling but people changing the melody of the track, the key etc
