Default DMC still does not allow DVS or controllers!

Found this on the scratchworx site. Thought i'd share it.

    http://www.skratchworx.com/news3/comments.php?id=1536

    Which it states....

"The format of the 2010 DJ Championships will not be changed, digital equipment as normal will be permitted in the Team Championships ONLY. The format of the Battle For Supremacy and solo competition will remain with two turntables and mixer"

Well I guess sharing with people from DJ TT most of you will think that it is foolish to not even allow DVS in the battle and solo competitions in 2010!. If i were running the competition I would say that you must have turntables but anything else goes..DVS, add on controllers etc. As long as you still have the old school elements of scratching their why can't you make the competition even more creative??? We all seen the cool routines from Native Instruments with turntables and an X1..

Because than it wont be the same. They didnt have 808īs back than allowed to incorporate into the mix, or keyboards. Why should they allow dvs now? Everyone is allready using dubplates, no need for DVS imo.

I think its a good thing they focus on 2 turntables and a mixer only i think. And its the DMC, they are the elite

yeah, i agree with them as well. not that theyre afraid of new tech, but they want the contest the same way it has been before. a lumberjack cant bring a chainsaw to an event that requires an axe, eh?

I agree with keeping the DMC as is (Vinyl, Mixer, TT only).

Although I think its great that they allow DVS in the team competition.

I can see where your coming from. But maybe just a different category for the competition allowing any set up. Sure keep the vinyls and a mixer but just be more open.

To me watching someone scratch and beat juggle and add effects just adds more competition.

As in almost any competition consistency in standard equipment is essential for a level playing field and judging criteria. The decision makes a lot of sense to me.

Yeah, I think the DMCs are about turntables and vinyl. That said, it isn't completely accurate that no controllers or DVS are allowed. They're just not allowed in the solo events. The team events allow them.

While I personally feel that controllers are going to take over the bulk of the DJ market, I also feel that the DMC contests are judging a certain skill set. To try and introduce "digital" elements into that would complicate judging. How much of the performance is on the artist, and how much of it is on the equipment? It would be like a photoshop artist trying to enter a painting competition.

Instead of forcing the DMCs to accept controllerists, there should be a controllerist only competition.

I agree with this statement. Turntablism is an art form that should continue to have it's own place in music. That doesn't preclude controllerism from having it's own place, as well.
