    Default 1st Midi Controller advice

    Hey there

I'm looking to start DJ'ing and came across this site, I basically was skimming through all the articles all day yesterday. Anyway, you all seem to know your stuff so I thought I'd ask for some advice

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but what I've picked up from the research I've been doing is that using a MIDI controller + DJ software (I'm planning to go with Traktor) is a cost effective way of getting into DJ'ing, but is also definitely not a 'beginner' option. It looks like a good way to get into DJ'ing for a beginner.

So as a result I started looking at various MIDI controllers, and the two that stand out for me are the Vestax VCI-100SE from DJTT and the Stanton SCS System 3.

Most people on this website seem to be into the VCI-100SE, unsurprisingly. But being the unashamed tech nerd that I am, I am so intrigued by the Stanton system, and I have read a lot of good reviews on them.

    So my questions are:
Is anything that I've said wrong?
Are there any other controllers you would recommend?
Which do you think is better, the VCI-100SE or the Stanton system?
Which do you think is better for a beginner?
and finally, would an Audio 2 DJ be a sufficient sound card for what I am doing?

Bit of a long post, but I'd really appreciate your opinions

    Thanks a lot in advance

Headphones, I was thinking of using some open back ones I have at the moment.

Speakers I was thinking KRK Rokit 5's.

Infact, do I need a pair of speakers or would just the one do?

A pair is definitely the way to go. If you're buying something as good as KRKs, why halve the experience! A lot of music has separate parts that you'd miss out on by only having one speaker, 'poison' by the prodigy is one that springs to mind.

To be honest, the reason I'm thinking KRK's at the moment is that:
    a) I've heard good things about them before from a friend who is doing a music production degree
    b) Compared to the other speakers I've seen they aren't so expensive.

Can you recommend some good ones that are a bit cheaper? Although I have noticed, that with a few prices in US dollars are the same in GBP, which is ridiculous =/

I don't really care for the stanton system, due to the lack of physical controls. But i've never played with one for more than like 10 min. Now the audio 2 dj is a beast, and i recommend it to everybody. As for the VCI, well i don't have one, but i've broken down and plan on buying one in the near future.
Another option would be the APC40, lots of people on here seem to love it.

The APC looks quite cool, but it works with Ableton, which from what I've read isn't really for DJ'ing, although it can be, its more of a DAW like Reason or Cubase? So I was thinking of going for Traktor, which seems to work really well with the two controllers I've mentioned.

    Thanks for the input though

It's a midi controller, so you can use it with Traktor as well. There are some great mappings on the forum from people using it with traktor.
