Default S4 Kontrol missing Fader Effects mode!!!

I'm amped on buying either a VCI-100SE... OR, the Kontrol S4...

I just found out through emailing the tech support staff here on DJtechtools, that the one thing the S4 DOESN'T have that the SE has is Fader Effects Mode.

Tell me, folks, is this a major let down?? would this deter YOU from going S4??? S4 seems to be superior, but is this a deal breaker????

now it's your turn to respond.

    I'm sure it's mappable.

According to DJJ 8/16 article: "The jog wheels are touch-sensitive... You will also find a special “Ean Golden” feature that turns the jog wheels into FX controllers, modeled after our VCI-100SE’s “Fader FX Mode”.

But in case it doesn't, you can (a) map it on your own or (b) not care because shouldn't be a deal breaker given the many functions of the S4.

I would still think about the SE arcade for its portability, uniqueness, and downright badassness.

    Default mapping my own

mapping my own would likely be a pain in the testicles. Especially given the complexity that Ian explains here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjjA0xPkXMs

The whole reason I'm going with one of these two models is to add the FUN back into production (I have vast experience as a studio engineer,) and for plug and play capability.

The SE is apparently badass, but I don't have a music store near me with one I can play with

Answer me this: as I don't intend to add turn-tables in the future; I have a stellar audio card already; and I know I can run the device through Ableton Live for sampling ~ do you figure the S4 is STILL the better option over the VCI-100SE??? (I do like the sounds of an all in one unit, of course.)

I can't really tell you which one to buy. I wouldn't get too strung up on which one to buy. The SE is significantly cheaper--there are good, used ones for $400 on Buy/Sell. $500 price differential that can be used for another secondary controller--Midi Fighter, X1, etc.

They each have their pros/cons. SE will give you more portability, but the S4 will give you a perfect 1:1 connectivity with Traktor. The pitch and volume faders are a little stiffer on the SE. Just compare the specs.

DJTT is likely to do mappings for both--utilizing the new Traktor software and both will likely have FaderFX.

    Hope that helps.

My bet would be learn proper mapping and get it done (it just feels better to do it yourself)

or just wait for someone to recreate it and post it here...

Look at what the hardware offers and make that your priority, not something that can (and surely will) be recreated.

It's pretty hard to compare them since they are in quite a different price range but if you have the money go for the S4, I'm pretty sure it will become the new king as the "normal" layout controller.
