    Default s4 auto gain / auto-CLIP

With auto gain turned on.. I keep going in the red!
My last set-up didn't have gain knobs for all decks.. so I was pumped to see the S4 had these.... however I keep using them to turn down to come out of the red!... any ideas

It's not in preferences. It's the main volume knob in preferences in the top center of the software. You may need to switch to extended mixer layout to see it. The software main and the hardware main are separate from each other so no matter how much you turn the main knob on the controller it won't control the software main.

-8 sounds a bit extreme Lowest i'd go is -5db I'm currently running -2.5. If I get clipping now it means I'm not mixing right and need to adjust the mix between the tracks.

All depends on how hot you push your Channel faders.

I like them at around 50% so i have lots of room to mix. Therefore my Master Software Volume never leaves -2.5 as well.

I never clip unless im adding horrendous amounts of delay (which i like to do) but even so i rarely clip.

Push the Hardware Master Volume and keep the software below 0:0db at all times.

If the software gets above 0:0db its gonna be clip city and no amount of fiddling will help.

A lot of people are realising that now they have a Volume control on the hardware they need to relearn their software settings.

With TPRO i set the master to 0:0 but now in S4 its -2.5
