Default How do I play in dark environments? Some strange ideas...

I have a s4 with the flight case, I realized that the s4 is not very well lit. my question is ( and this applies to everyone ) what do you guys do to see mixers a little better?

I was playing in a dark room with absolutely NO LIGHTS ( the hipsters were dancing with glow sticks) and I just couldn't see my mixer or any of my buttons...
I was thinking about buying a USB led Light [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Logiix-USB-LED-Red-Light/dp/B002NKM27Y/ref=sr_1_10?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1292220117&s r=1-10"]Amazon.com: Logiix USB LED 10 Red Light: Electronics@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41JG1HDqCjL.@@AMEPARAM@@41JG1HDqCjL[/ame] , but I don't want to plug moar usb connections into my laptop...

I was originally just going to use my extra bike light that i have .Then I started to think moar creatively and maybe I could line my flightcase at the laptop with leds or maybe something wild (sexy flames with sexy sex)...but that's all speculative right meow.
    What do you guys think?
P.S. Headlamps make people look dorky.

who care what you look like.. ? better you make sure you dont hit the wrong button before stressing how people are all secretly making comments on how the dj thinks he is one of orbitals best buddies.

I just ran into this issue last night at a party. A friend was DJing and he wanted a break so I jumped on the decks for a minute, but there was almost no lighting (large house party with UV lights) Ended up using the light from my blackberry but it was far from ideal.

Some EL (Electroluminescent) Wire on your flight case might work well and look pretty cool. http://www.neonstring.com/index.php?tasket=gallery
If you search google for EL Wire there's a bunch of places that sell it.

Did you pre-order CoD: MW2? You should have gotten some night vision goggles.

Check out these Screens from http://www.djstandz.com/ . The "polka screens" make your setup look better or less busy and give you some lighting. + I think you can have them customize the lettering to a certain extent.

I think I heard they were going to have a shorter version coming out soon so you may want to wait.

that DJStandz business is pretty cool, but one hell of a price tag to go along with it too.

I'd just figure out a simple LED controller or some such.

Hell, even a lite-brite would do the trick.

I would suggest doing something like this. Practical, great if its both dark AND cold, and also has that "WOW!' factor, and guaranteed to get you some shnanny.
    Note: Only works once.

only problem with nightvision googles is the strobe will end up blinding you

They are more expensive than you think... and will break the first second the strobe goes on... unless you have the later generation kind or one with protection circuit.
Ive got a used pair of nvg ops 15wp for roughly the equivalent of 3 s4's.
And trust me on this...you will be looking around like stevie wonder trying to gauge distance from your hand to the knob or fader on your controller. And if you manage to keep them on for more than 30 minutes make sure you have someone to hold your hand when you climb down from the dj booth

back on topic... Getting the form and function factor here is the main thing...
First things first.. you need to see your controls in any situation... so get a single or dual goose neck battery and powered light.. they make them small with a clip. As far as the form goes... you can buy a small Lighting Gel kit which you can roll in a cone and put over the lamp so any color can be achieved.
The real advantage Ive found is that if you really need to see any part on the mixer/controller you can focus the spot and the ambient bounce off of the light will do the rest. Its a tiny footprint in your gear bag which is also a plus.
having a colored led wire is ok but there will not be any way to focus the light where you need it. The light will also be direct vs indirect. Leds are really bright nowadays and that will partially blind you from having those points of light in your eyes.. this is just me... extended sessions in the dark will cause eyestrain no matter how you cut the cake.

That polka thing is interesting to a certain degree.. but cant see that working in all djbooths
