Default Let's talk about or love for Windows 7.

I am a man in love.

I spent about 5 days configuring, tweaking, testing, installing, uninstalling, reinstalling and messing about getting Vista to do very basic stuff for me on my new 2.1 ghz duo, 4 gb ram, 128 mb graph, 7200 rpm hdd. It still doesn't feel solid, maybe partly because I still have the visuals of win98 due to the OS sucky build.

Today I installed a PRE BETA (!!!!) version ow Windows 7 (official beta set to drop in Jan 2009) on a 1.6 ghz duo, 2 gb ram (integrated motherboard graph) and 5400 rpm hdd. It took 30 min to setup, much due to the simple fact that all graph visuals are running all full, including transparency/glas/aero and whatever it's called.

I installed third party audio drivers like Asio 4 all, ran Traktor FLAWLESS at the same time as running internet, antivirus, MSN, skype, firefox and thunderbird.

Just comparing the two machines (one of them being 3 years old) the old lappy with Win7 and all of those things running came to about 950 mb of memory usage while the brand new lappy with spanking specs is pushing 1.5 gb in memory just for start up without anything running.

Reading about Win7 it is overwhelming how positive people are about it.

I think we have a winner and Microsoft might finally regain some credibility that they had worked in so nicely with the XP SP2 and SP3.

    Anyone else tried it yet?

My Five Cents on Windows 7:

    Windows 7

Well reading between the lines of what Gates says about Windows 7 here:

That means that right now when you move from one PC to another, you've got to install apps on each one, do upgrades on each one. Moving information between them is very painful. We can use Live Services to know what you're interested in. So even if you drop by a [public] kiosk or somebody else's PC, we can bring down your home page, your files, your fonts, your favorites and those things. So that's kind of the user-centric thing that Live Services can enable. [Also,] in Vista, things got a lot better with [digital] ink and speech, but by the next release there will be a much bigger bet. Students won't need textbooks; they can just use these tablet devices. Parallel computing is pretty important for the next release. We'll make it so that a lot of the high-level graphics will be just built into the operating system. So we've got a pretty good outline.
Senior Vice President Bill Veghte stated that Windows 7 will not have the kind of compatibility issues with Vista that Vista has with previous versions:

“ You've let us know you don't want to face the kinds of incompatibility challenges with the next version of Windows you might have experienced early with Windows Vista. As a result, our approach with Windows 7 is to build off the same core architecture as Windows Vista so the investments you and our partners have made in Windows Vista will continue to pay off with Windows 7. Our goal is to ensure the migration process from Windows Vista to Windows 7 is straightforward.
Eeehhhh so, that means that its just vista, but prepared for the Internet2 takeover? OUR information all over the place?

Here is what I think and predict; In the end of 2009 you will see a massive drop on prices of HDD's. WHY? Well, cause you wont need them anymore, everything is stored on the interwebz, all your information will be held in massive server landscapes. I know that this is already happening, as I used to work for a company that has one of these storage landscapes already setup for various companies in the US.

Personally, I think its scary, and I think people should react. My Reaction? Boycott of ALL future windows products. For now I will stick to XP though, as I need it for making music, but as soon as I can use my soundcard (or get a new one for a decent price, that works on linux) I will stop using MS products all over.

    Discuss.

Edit: CLOUD COMPUTING HAS TO BE STOPPED!!!

Cloud computing is impossible to stop, with the ever increasing speeds of networks it makes this idea more feasable - its all a matter of when its going to happen, not if its going to happen.

That said i agree its pretty dodgy territory handing over all our personal details like that, you can pretty much guarentee marketing companies are standing around rubbing their hands together at the moment salivating over the data thats going to be collected for their exploitation.

For me, there is no way I will fall for the cloud culture, no way, no how.

I've had a website with massive storage capacities for years but still I NEVER put up private stuff (read: Home produced porn )

But the Cloud culture is just a tiny bit of the new Windows experience which finally actually make sense in it's design, functions, user friendliness and compatibility.

My point in all this is that Win7 is LIGHT YEARS ahead of Vista, which to me is very comforting since I almost, you hear me? Aaaalmost, went Mac. So, it's comforting to me and all other frustrated Vista users or ancient XP holders who want to have a new, fresh and kissable OS. (I really need to date more)

Windows 7 Should be able to run on any machine that runs Vista. It is however not OS dependent. You either "upgrade" or you make a clean install.
