i was going to suggest jean-michelle jarre. he basically was one of the pioneers of electronic music, started in the late 70's early 80's, one of the first musicians to use synthesizers. all his tracks are deeply riddled with analouge synths, he uses heaps of strings and pads on all his tracks. I did a very simmilar assignment for audio engineering comparing 3 tracks from 3 different eras. U wouldnt happen to be studying at SAE? lol. Anyway, i got a very high distinction for that assignment, id reccomend checking out jean michelle jarre for your assignment. it seems to fit what your writing about, and one of the comments i got on my assignment was that i obviously did a lot of research in music history, and the origins of electronic music... i didnt really, i just trawled through my parents record collection.
