    Default Need some blacklights..suggestions?

Ideally i would LOVE one of those bendy, snake USB lights with a powerful blacklight LED in there, but i have yet to find what im looking for. a 10-14" long blacklight that can slip ontop of the macbook would be great as well-i have yet to find it. My keyboard is painted with fluorescent paint and UV paint so i would like my old small personal blacklight so i can see in the dark, whether the vanue has blacklights or not.

oh no battery power either! USB or 120v only

Maybe this? You would have to carry extra batteries.

I was under the impression that only flourescent tubes, the long ones T-12 is the normal size I believe, were the only blacklights able to create a glow to flourescent painted objects. No LED, Tungsten, or anything else would give that effect, only the gas inside the tubes could do that.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but thought I read and heard that somewhere before.

Some Congo Gel over a bright LED will certainly make your keys "pop" .. not exactly a backlight but will work.

A 6' money tester tube and housing will run you under $10 .. probably one of the cheaper options to go for and light to carry around, no hassle with batteries either.

But did see a "spy" kit for (kids toy) that included a UV torch for under $2 that was designed to pick up floro ... for "invisible" writing

    Damn pesky spy kids

Surely if the light has the same wavelength or thereabouts it should have the same effect.

Most LED's have a wider wavelength ... so wash quite a bit and not a true blacklight, unless you get into the expensive versions (medical/forensics).

Hmmm check out this one though ....

Retrofitting the LED into a USB snake would be a piece of cake.

Yeah, you could always tell who had a good wank when the blacklights came on in the club. Fluorescent tubes use a coating or even a deeppurple colored glass to filter short wave allowing long wavelength to pass.

You'll be after the shorter wavelengths not the longer ones, but I believe LEDs only produce one wavelength so it's just a case of finding the right one! they use LEDs in bank note checking lamps sometimes so I'm sure it's possible to find LED blacklights that will illuminate fluorescent knobs.

There was this keyboard or something made my razor a while back. I think it was called the battlelight or something. It did exactly what you are talking about. USB powered, should be perfect.
