Yeah, long sets are great. Let's hear it for 4 hours plus!

BTW: For your set, if you are starting off with ambient/downtempo, particularly for a goth/industrial audience, don't feel like you have to be shackeled by smooth tempo changes. Some of the best nights I've had dancing to industrial have included rather sharp changes in tempo. I also don't limit myself to strict house/techno style beatmatching when I'm playing ambient sets either and that's never been a problem.

Don't let the tools/structures/rules become limitations.

yeah, goth/industrial crowds are an entirely different animal dancefloor wise.

they have their own weird sets of rules. and dont run by a lot of the rest of the rules.

    ::shakes head:: weirdos we are!

So if I throw on Skream! - Totrured Soul (Dubstep) people might not care? lol I'm totally going to play that. Hopefully without boos.

there really aren't a whole lot of restrictions musically in the goth industrial scene.

dropping the cure in the middle of a high energy electro set, is not only not unheardof, it's common!

that being said, one rule that is generally across the board is that the music is "dark" now this is a fuzzy term. but important. if it's not "scene" enough than people will get pissed. Now everyone has a limit where they draw the line. so the goal in the goth/industrial club is to ride that line. push it, but dont cross it to where more people in the club think you've crossed the line, than not.

    does...that make any sense? lol

Just like something can be 'not jungle' enough for a junglist, something can be not 'dark' enough for the dark scene.

it's all subjective though...and takes a lot of practice to get.

tracks that are dark that you might not think:
    TMBG - Instanbul
Gogol Bordello - Start Wearing Purple
    Nena - 99 Leufbaloons
    Underworld - cowgirl/rez/born slippy
m.i.a - paper planes (that clash sample sure helps!)
    cindy lauper - she bop
when in rome - the promise
    information society (all of it)

    tracks that are NOT dark:
    most alt rock.
    anything by tin machine
uhm...and other stuff....most dance music will NOT be considered dark. also lyrics are VERY appealing to this crowd...keep that in mind.

Don't worry I know how much they love their lyrics. I like them too, just not when I am dancing. I like to trance. Too many lyrics and I get distracted and pissed. That's why I am a techno/house fan as well.

yeah, the whole lyrics thing weirded me out at first too. but i didn't mind since i played tons of vocal trance, epic trance, etc in addition to the minimalistic techno and such.

i flowed super well into futurepop (futurepope!).

Hopefully people don't get to upset with me. I can't groove very well to futurepoop (as you put it). I love grungy hard industrial. I'm sure there has to be at least 10 people at the club that will love what I play. Even if it's slower, the beat needs some distortion and lots of metal sounds. Maybe I will be know as the guy that does that in this city.

Good thing is the owner said he liked the music I had on my profile. It's a music profile and it's music I produced. So I have the owners praise to play my own tracks. YEA!

Oh, I was digging through my collection last night, gridding tracks and all...

I'm surprised no one mentioned Collide yet but Crushed (Scored Mix) and Wings Of Steel (Core Mix) are fucking sexy tracks.
