I still haven't got any of that music yet. Payday Friday on the way.

I have been practicing mixing slower music 100bpm and below. It's hard for me. I am so hyper and I keep wanting to jump to 130 right away. And not to mention I have like an hour and 30 minutes of slow music.... Thank god for loops. I can make a 2 hour slow set even if I don't have that much music.

My ideal set time is around 90 to 120 minutes. If I could have two of those in a night I'd be golden for DJing. Right now, cause I seem to be one of the only DJs in NYC willing to spin longer than an hour, all of my sets are around 45 minutes.

90 minutes, though, isn't that bad. Keep in mind that the songs are almost always as long as the 130bpm to 140bpm tracks. Just use your tricks to make it more interesting for you. Even a little vocal sampling or beatmashing can go a long way in changing the color of a track :-)

Yeah, looping and putting on some fx, sampling and what not. That can keep a song from having the repeating feeling. I have never did a set over 60 minutes. So 2 hours is frightening. I just don't want to start a mood and then run out of songs at that tempo, mood, genre. I have some ambient tracks, kind of Indian feeling (not bollywood!). I figure I can put some of that up too. Shit I don't know. This is a new club, no one will be there or everyone will be there. Grr.

you don't have to sit at that mellow mood for the entire 2 hours. in fact the energy better pick up over a 2 hour time!

i usually start off super ambient and slowly work my way into 4/4 135 over the span of the first 2 hours of the night. 9-11

I hate playing anything under 1hr. 2hr sets are good, you can really take people on a trip. I usually play all night from 9-2am (close)

I am hoping to go from 60 to 120 in 2 hours. I need to practice flowing from that. So that the next DJ isn't to pressured to pump up the night.

In an hour and a half I can steadily and logically increase my tempo from around 75BPM (slowest I usually spin) to around 120bpm... lots of fades and blends in there. Granted, in the first hour there are usually no people whatsoever in the club I spin at, so I have a lot of leeway to just play stuff I enjoy listening to.

yeah, 60-120 is not that hard, just think very carefully about the BPMs of each track and try to go an incremental increase with every track. Take a look at my setlists and see how I slowly move the energy up.

I usually play all night from 9-2am (close)
    regular occurrence here too. ^_^
