    its the external.
an external drive speed is normally 5400rpm, a fast hard drive is 7200rpm.

even then the transfer rate of usb is nto fast enough for audio work (if you have a firewire hard drive thats heaps better).

What about USB 3.0. He will probably need a need external HDD, but it may be an option.

Developed by the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF), USB 3.0's SuperSpeed specification promises a theoretical top speed of 5Gbit/sec. versus USB 2.0's 480Mbit/sec.

Tracks are loaded into the ram so the eternal hdd is not an issue. It is to do with shielding as his setup works fine at home.

so it is somthing outside of his setup leaking in causing the issue

To answer an earlier question. USB 3.0 has a faster transfer speed then FireWire so it won't matter.

Tombruton, I believe (and I could be wrong) tracks are previewed in software and there waveforms cached for playback and waveform view but the entirety of a track (the data of the whole song) is not cached because it's heavy on ram.
That's why when u take out ur external half way thru a song it won't play till the end.

Not ruling out cabling or leaking, but I beleive that's wat it is

Did you pay your DJ Union Dues? Not being current can sometimes cause this.
