Dubspot, an esteemed name in music education, is traveling to South By Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas again this year, bringing workshops, demonstrations, parties, and gatherings of elite musicians and teachers. In the spirit of their new worldwide learning platform, Dubspot Online, and imminent expansion to Austin, faculty involved this year hail from both coasts, overseas, and Austin itself, all joining together around this revolutionary festival and educational concept.


SXSW MUSIC & MEDIA CONFERENCE

From March 16 – 19, Dubspot will return for their 2nd year at the Gear Alley Expo of the SXSW Music and Media Conference, hosting mini-demos, sample private tutoring lessons, Dubspot Online information sessions, and public samplings of the school’s renowned experience. Two special workshops sessions are also scheduled for the Gear Alley Garage performance area:

DUBSPOT AUSTIN: Ableton Live Session w/ Ocote Soul Sounds' Martín Perna & Friends
"Folktronic Funklore" is a word that producer, multi-instrumentalist, and Austin resident Martin Perna (Dubspot, Antibalas, Ocote Soul Sounds) uses to describe his music, and no piece of musical software helps achieve this aesthetic more than Ableton Live. This workshop features technical explanations & live musical collaborations between Martín, fellow members of Ocote, Thavius Beck, Pat Cupo, and Ancient Astronauts

To close SXSW this year (unofficially), Dubspot is hosting the DUBSPOT AUSTIN BBQ BENEFIT, along with ESL, Native Instruments, Wax Poetics and Tru Thoughts. All proceeds will benefit The Cipher, an Austin-based organization dedicated to building young leaders and engaged hip hop artists. The afternoon will feature sets from Matt Shadetek, DJ ObaH, Martín Perna, Thavius Beck, Barry Cole, Rob Luis, Belleruche, and DJ Shiftee, plus a special performance by The Cipher and the Outta Kontrol dance crew.
