Buying a Macbook Pro

Its a few weeks down the road but I'm debating a macbook pro purchase...

I have been a PC guy for a while but I finally see the benefits of a macbook for dj'ing. I already have a decked out desktop that I use for organizing/remixing/producing and I feel that the macbook would be a good laptop.

I currently have a POS vaio so any upgrade will seem like a huge one to me, I really like the macbook because of the unibody design, it seems really durable for something like dj'ing.

The question is, I already know I will be picking up a refurb'd one. Should I hold off and go with a new one even with the stated issues....or should I pick up an old C2D or generation1 core i5 version for the sake of cost?

the issues with the 2011 models are fixed. take what you can afford, you cant go wrong with a MBP.

Bought an April 2010 i7 15" refurbed and it's wicked. If you can get the newest go for it.

i've always been happy with apple laptops for djing. i made my switch back in 2005 and haven't looked back.

To answer your question simply, yes - pick up a new one.

You want the Thunderbolt port. With the speed it provides... it's going to become very useful for DJs with a huge library and an external drive. Not to mention you will be able to run programs off your external HD faster then your internal one just cause of it's sheer speed. I would definitely pick up a new one. Hands down. No questions asked.

For DJing + Maschine usage at the SAME time this is more then enough.

This part is for everyone buying a new macbook pro:
Any (post 2009 for sure) MacBook Pro will do the job.

I just bought a 15 i7 with 120gig SSD with HED. Love it!

Not a fan of OS X but I got it for Logic and Traktor and it does it really really well.

The price sounds too good to be true actually, make sure you don't get ripped off! If it's all good, go for it.
