Second, invest one bit at a time. If you think that VDJ is really lacking then just get Traktor. I think you're already falling into the very seductive claws of GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome). You have what you have. Figure out what you really need to take stuff to the next level and make that investment.

If you only use two decks, and have no interest in 4, look at Duo for now. It limits you in FX, but something tells me that after 4 months you're going to have your hands full with what it has to begin with.
This for me is by far the best advice you will get.

You can DJ excellently with no FX at all.

The best two DJs I know locally don't use FX, although they do use Xone 92 mixers and have a very technical blending style.

All you need to DJ properly is a pair of upfaders (no Xfader), some buttons for cue points, EQ controls and a play/pause button.

I also suffer from GAS, but the best mixes I've ever done were no-FX, two-channel breaks sets.

    And don't forget, y'know, skill

I totally agree with you, though.

    That's a factor, for sure.

The other big thing to look for in a controller is convenience. Does it "just work"? Is it reliable? Will it fit in a booth?

A small set of features "done right" is worth more than lots of features that aren't streamlined.
