Advice, help with first gig

Hi

so there's this "battle of the DJ's" event being run in a club I know and I think I'm gonna give it a go for some experience as I'v never play in front of a live crowd or in a club. As you can imagine, I'm nervous. I'll be competing against 10 other DJ's, they prob have way more experience too. I'll be playing for 15 mins. Its lucky dip who goes on first or last. So what kinda music should I play? how many tracks would u get in?

I rang the guy who's organizing it to say can I bring a controller? He said its cool, so I'll be bringing the S4, in its original box since I'm waiting for the case from DJ techtools

I'v been Djing for a short period of time and I don't know what I do be doing half of the time, I don't even know what music to play, my music is very commercial.

So I'm looking for advice guys, I'm half thinkin about just not bothering cause I'll look so stupid showin up with the S4 in a cardboard box playin commercial music. Tips, advice?

Play whatever you play the best, essentially. If there's no genre requirement for the competition just go balls to the wall, best things you do.

Depending on how you mix and what tricks you do, 15 minutes can easily be 5 or 6 songs. Just rock it how you rock it. Worst case you fuck up. Might as well fuck up trying something crazy

What kind of club event is it? Is it at a club that generally does top 40 or hip hop or EDM or what?

I just wanna see what other ppl would play in 15 mins.

They would mainly be playing top 40, chart music.

Got to be dropping some remixes of well known tunes then, I reckons: e.g. seabastiAn's version of RATM.

Being the new guy you'll have the problem of going balls out but having some epic fails or try to be spot on the beat matching and smooth transitions.

How do you want people to perceive you?

As for what you should play, play music you know but would also suit the venue your playing at. No point dropping some dirty dubstep in a club which is known for house music.

My advice, if your new, play to your highest ability and try something that will push your skills. I'd only go for trying 1 thing in 15mins. Be known as the new guy who didnt try to show off

winner gets to be a regular DJ at the venue, not that I have any chance of winning.

I would like to hear ur suggestions, I dont care if their not top 40, u can play any music u want, the club usually plays top 40 but that doesnt mean I'm gonna play top 40
